My Background in the Church includes former Youth Ministry, Mission Trips, & Christian Education

Helping pastors and congregations to buy and sell churches has a special place in my heart. I grew up in the church, and as a kid, I always wanted to be a missionary. I still hope to one day be in full-time ministry once I've built up assets from my career in real estate so that I can be more self-supporting than I would be otherwise. I've had the privilege of being involved in ministry locally, elsewhere in the US, and on over 20 mission trips outside of the country.

I tithe to my local church where I'm an elder

I'm someone who seeks to live out my faith. When I was a youth minister, there was a time in the latter year when my tithe made up around 90% of my salary, so I took a 90% pay cut to compensate. I currently tithe from my income to my local church where I am an elder.

Combining Efforts with My Father, Greg Garrett

When I assist churches, for purchases or sales, I always seek the assistance of my father, Greg Garrett. For any listings, I co-list with him.

Home Purchases & Sales vs Church Purchases & Sales

There is a high level of crossover information between house purchases and sales and church purchases and sales, but several unique differences.

  • At Garrett Realty Partners, we have the main firm, which primarily deals with houses, and we also have a commercial-specific company.

  • With commercial, such as with churches, it's important to not rely exclusively on the MLS which is more commonly used in residential sales. Loopnet is a more important source with commercial, such as churches.

  • Timing of showings for commercial is often in the 9-5 timeframe, while that's less common with residential. Likewise, it's not uncommon with commercial to deal with agents who work 9-5 Monday-Friday primarily.

  • Contracts with commercial, such as with churches, is also different than with residential.

  • Financing is also different with commercial than with residential.

Church Purchasers

See Commercial Property Purchases & Sales for financing differences vs. residential and where to locate churches for sale online.

While my buyer's guide & my article on what I offer buyers are primarily geared toward homes, a number of elements of each apply to church purchases as well.

Here are some examples:

Church Sellers

It's not uncommon for marketing of churches to be a bit half-hearted. I buck this trend with my typical above-and-beyond marketing, including professional photography, aerials, a Matterport virtual tour, & more.

While my seller's guide & my article on what I offer sellers are primarily geared toward houses, a number of elements of each apply to church purchases as well.

Here are some examples:

Church Purchasers & Sellers at the Same Time

A number of principles are very similar for residential & commercial (including churches) when purchasing and selling at the same time. See:
